Why you need a good emergency plumber

When a pipe bursts at 9pm, the plumber you choose matters. What a good emergency plumber does differently, and what to do while you wait.

A leaking pipe beside water-damaged floorboards

Most people look for an emergency plumber with water already on the floor. Saving a good number in your phone now makes that evening much easier.

They answer and they turn up

In an emergency, speed is everything. A good emergency plumber picks up the phone, gives you an honest arrival time and tells you the rate before setting off. Our customers most often mention how quickly we respond, from same-day visits to arriving within half an hour on a Saturday.

They find the real cause

Water travels. A stain on the ceiling can come from a pipe several metres away. An experienced plumber traces the leak to its source rather than patching the first wet thing they see, so it does not come back next week.

They have the right parts with them

A well-stocked van means most emergency repairs are finished on the first visit, without a second call-out to collect a part.

They are upfront about price

Out-of-hours work costs more everywhere. A good plumber tells you the rate on the phone so you can decide whether it can wait until morning. Ours is published: £180 an hour including VAT (£150 + VAT) outside weekdays 8am to 5pm. See our prices.

What to do while you wait

  1. Turn off the water at the stopcock. In most London homes it is under the kitchen sink.
  2. Switch off electrics near the water at the consumer unit if it is safe to do so.
  3. Open the cold taps to drain the pipes.
  4. Move valuables and put down towels and buckets.
  5. Take photos for your insurer.
