Central heating repairs and fault finding

When the boiler is firing but the house is still cold, the fault is usually elsewhere in the system: a stuck pump, a failed motorised valve, a blocked radiator or a thermostat that has stopped talking to the boiler. We find it and fix it.

Advice before an engineer

Several of our reviewers say Lee sorted their heating over the phone or on FaceTime, for example by resetting the controls or topping up the pressure, without needing a visit. Call first; it might be a five-minute fix.

Central heating repair: common questions

Why is my radiator cold at the bottom?

Usually sludge has settled in it. A power flush or removing and flushing the radiator clears it.

Why is my radiator cold at the top?

Air is trapped in it. Bleed it with a radiator key, then check the boiler pressure is still around 1–1.5 bar.
